All lessons involve using language. Skills are developed through speaking, listening, reading and writing. Children are taught basic rules, encouraged to think for themselves, and to express themselves effectively. They are encouraged to consider purpose, form and audience through their written and spoken work. We also promote an enjoyment of poetry, literature and drama. Generally speaking the literacy sessions take the form of a shared text, a variety of follow up tasks as text, word or sentence level and a plenary to bring the session to a close. We believe that this has enhanced our existing practice, particularly in terms of using non fiction texts, modelling writing and cross-curricular links. Children will also have a weekly writing session.
