Dear Parents/Carers We hope that the following brief outline of the work that will be taught will be useful to you when you discuss his/her work with your child. We always welcome parental support so if you feel you or your place of work have skills which could support any of the units of work please let us know. Children will be staying for 3 days/2 nights. There will be a meeting at school on THURSDAY 29th JANUARY AT 6.15 pm to furnish you with further details. RESEARCH WORK In Y5 & Y6 we encourage the children to start to do more independent research work. Topics are set linked with the work the children are doing in school and guidance is given by the class teacher. We hope parents/carers will feel able to join in and support the children in their work and help their child investigate and report on the aspects of the topic their child finds interesting. Children can be encouraged to use a variety of support materials to help, for example books, local library, family members with some knowledge, the internet or even family trips! If possible children should be supported to record these in different ways and produce an organised folder. How much each child produces will depend on individual children but we hope parents/carers will enjoy supporting their child’s learning. If you need any further guidance please have a chat with the class teacher. HELP AT HOME The school’s homework policy recognises that pupils work hard in school and should be encouraged to develop other skills and interests out of school time. It also states that we feel that children of this age need the opportunity to play, socialise and relax. We do however value parental involvement and support in the following areas:
SCHOOL BAGS We value your support by ensuring that your child has a book bag or plastic wallet to carry reading books, letters home etc. to and from school to avoid them becoming damaged. We do sell bags in school at a cost of £2.50. If you are interested in purchasing one please go to the office. |
