We aim to promote the understanding of a wide range of mathematical concepts in number, measurement, shape and data handling, which involves practical work, computational skills and investigations. All children receive a daily maths lesson, in line with the numeracy strategy, which includes opportunities for mental and oral work. Throughout the year groups, we teach a range of mental and written computation methods. We encourage children to select methods which are appropriate to the tasks in hand. Our mathematics lessons aim to apply the pupils’ everyday experience, in the solution of practical problems and in communicating mathematically.
