The teaching of Modern Foreign Language (MFL) at Nether Green Junior School has been developed and is taught in partenership with King Edward VII Secondary Language College and other local feeder schools. In years 3 and 4 we follow a scheme of work (written specifically for our partnership schools) based around the Early Start resource which encourages the children to talk about themselves and their world. The focus is mainly oral, although the children often work in pairs and groups. Lessons are led by the specialist language teacher or class teachers who have trained in our partnership training sessions.
In year 5 and 6 the aim is on content based delivery, topic areas such as South American games and Spanish artists being delivered via the medium of the foreign language. Using word mats the children are encouraged to discover and manipulate new language independently. The year 5 and 6 scheme of work is delivered by a specialist language teacher.
