Modern Foreign Language (MFL) at Nether Green Junior School is taught through the ‘ilanguages’ scheme of work. We have chosen to speak Spanish as a foreign language as it is one of the most widely spoken languages in the world. It also links well with the language curriculum being covered in our main feeder schools.
The scheme of work is interactive and exciting, including use of video clips, songs, stories and games. A range of topics are covered throughout Y3-6 including everyday language (greetings, birthdays, school, family etc) as well as exploring aspects of the customs, history and culture of Spanish speaking countries. Lessons are focused around developing listening, speaking, reading and writing skills.
In year 3 and 4 lessons are led by the class teachers and in year 5 and 6 they are led by a specialist language teacher.
