Art and Design

We believe that teaching and learning about art and design is important because it stimulates creativity, imagination and inventive problem solving. We aim to enrich all children’s learning by giving them the skills, concepts, knowledge and confidence to be able to express responses in a visual or sculptural form. Art and Design should fire the imagination – it should be appreciated and enjoyed.

Art and Design is taught from a scheme of work that plans for progression of skills in drawing, painting, collage and 3D work.  It focuses on the children using a range of media and different techniques to develop their understanding of art making.  It includes using the work of other artists and other times to provide inspiration and links with other topic work.

We run a themed Arts week for all year groups in the school every year which culminates in an exhibition or other form of displaying the children's work, which parents are invited to see.

Professional artists are invited into the school to work with children on specific projects like our mosaics in the playground.

We give children the opportunity to celebrate their artistic talents by taking part in 'The Sheffield Children's Art Festival' and are regular contributors to various competitions such as 'Young Painter of the Year'.

We are very proud to be an 'Artsmark Gold' school, which we feel reflects our level of commitment and high achievements in the Arts.
